Warframe’s ‘Koumei & the Five Fates’ Update Arrives Oct. 2, Featuring New Shrine Defense Mission, Infested Oni Boss, and More!

Digital Extremes is bringing fresh content to Warframe with the upcoming Koumei & the Five Fates update, set to release across all current platforms on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Revealed during the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) via a special Devstream, players got their first look at Warframe’s 58th warrior, Koumei the dice-maiden, along with her RNG-inspired ability kit.

Developed in collaboration with Sumo Digital, this new update will also include the exciting Shrine Defense mission, featuring a challenging mini-boss, Infested Oni, alongside a slew of quality-of-life improvements, all designed to enhance the gameplay experience for both new and veteran players.

Meet Koumei – Warframe’s RNG-Inspired Dice Maiden

Koumei’s ability kit revolves around chance and fortune, making every battle a unique test of luck and strategy. Her powers include:

  • Kumihimo Traps: Deploy traps that inflict damage and random status ailments based on dice rolls.
  • Omikuji: Predict the future to receive fate-guided buffs and adapt to the moment.
  • Omamori Charms: Summon charms that randomly convert damage into shields or health.
  • Bunraku Ultimate Ability: Control enemies like puppets using status effects, turning them into marionettes of chaos.

New Mission: Shrine Defense and Infested Oni Boss

Players will defend a sacred settlement under siege by Infested invaders, gathering offerings to protect the shrine while fighting waves of enemies. The Infested Oni serves as the mission’s mini-boss, bringing new challenges for players to overcome.

This mission will unlock after completing the Saya's Vigil and Once Awake Quests, allowing players to earn Koumei’s crafting parts and her signature weapons, the Higasa gunbrella and the Amanata polearm.

Game Improvements and Free Gifts

In addition to new content, Digital Extremes is rolling out several improvements and updates:

  • Local Co-op and Cross-Platform Trading: Players can now trade and gift items across platforms regardless of cross-save status.
  • Companion System Revamp: Major improvements to the companion system to enhance gameplay.
  • Caliban Rework: The heir of twin kingdoms, Caliban, receives a rework for better synergy, mobility, and damage output. Players logging in between Oct. 2 - Oct. 16 will receive Caliban for free.
