Ubisoft Announces Rainbow Six Siege X – The Game’s Biggest Evolution Yet

New 6v6 Mode, Visual Enhancements, Free-to-Play Access, and More Coming June 10

Ubisoft has officially revealed Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X, the most transformative update in the game’s history, set to launch June 10, 2025, as a free update across all platforms. This massive overhaul introduces new game modes, graphical enhancements, improved mechanics, anti-cheat upgrades, and a shift to a free-to-play model.

New 6v6 Mode – Dual Front

Siege X brings a fresh take on the Siege formula with Dual Front, a brand-new, evolving 6v6 mode. In this mode:

  • Teams must secure three enemy sectors while defending their own in an all-new District map, designed exclusively for Dual Front.
  • Players can choose from a curated roster of 35 Operators, mixing both Attackers and Defenders for the first time to create new tactical combinations.
  • A Neutral Sector introduces time-limited assignments, allowing teams to earn game-changing rewards—but at the risk of exposing key defensive positions.
  • Respawning and Operator Repicking allow players to adjust strategies on the fly.
  • Operator selections will rotate twice per season, while new Neutral Sector assignments will be added every season to keep the mode fresh.

Beta Now Live

Players can test Dual Front in the Siege X beta, running now through March 19 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Ubisoft Connect.

  • Beta access is available through Twitch Drops—simply watch partnered streamers to earn an invite.
  • You do not need to own Rainbow Six Siege to participate.

Graphical and Gameplay Overhauls

Siege X enhances the core gameplay experience with:

🔹 Visual Enhancements

  • Classic maps Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe receive improved lighting, shadows, and 4K textures at launch, with three additional maps enhanced each season.

🔹 New Environmental Destruction

  • Maps now feature interactive elements like fire extinguishers, gas pipes, and metal detectors—allowing players to use the environment for strategic advantage.

🔹 Rappelling Upgrades

  • More fluid rappel movement allows horizontal navigation and jumping around building corners, creating new angles and tactical opportunities.

🔹 Audio Overhaul

  • Improved audio propagation and reverberation help players gather more accurate sound intel, making it easier to track enemy movements.

🔹 New Onboarding Experience

  • Revamped tutorials and field training will help new players learn the game before jumping into matches.
  • A new Communication Wheel makes non-verbal teamwork more intuitive.

🔹 Pick and Ban System Revamp

  • Simultaneous banning of Operators speeds up match preparation.
  • Adaptive banning adds a new strategic layer, allowing teams to react dynamically to enemy tactics.

R6 ShieldGuard – Next-Gen Anti-Cheat System

Ubisoft is reinforcing security in Siege X with R6 ShieldGuard, a comprehensive anti-cheat initiative featuring:

  • Unified anti-cheat protection, bringing all existing measures under one system.
  • Live security updates that occur without scheduled maintenance, make it harder for cheat developers to adjust.
  • Improved reputation system to address toxicity and player behavior.

Free-to-Play Transition & Content Access

Starting June 10, Rainbow Six Siege will officially become free-to-play, with new and existing players having access to:

FREE PLAY ACCESS

  • Dual Front, Unranked, and Quick Play modes
  • Earn up to 26 Operators through progression
  • Ranked Mode & Siege Cup unlocked at Level 50
  • Instant access to more Operators

Existing players will retain all unlocked content, including Operators, inventory, and progression—plus exclusive veteran rewards based on their account’s creation date.

Upcoming RELOAD Esports Event in Brazil

Before Siege X officially launches, pro players will showcase the new updates during the RELOAD esports competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (May 8 – 18, 2025).

Expect to see modernized maps in action before they go live for all players.
