PlayStation Portal Update: Enhancing the Remote Play Experience
In a bid to bring high-quality console gaming experiences to the palm of your hands, PlayStation Portal has continued to evolve. The latest system software update, set to roll out tomorrow, promises to enhance this dedicated remote-play device with several new user-centric features.
Expanding Wi-Fi Accessibility
While PlayStation recommends using the PS Portal at home for optimal Wi-Fi control, the new update makes it easier to connect to public Wi-Fi networks. This includes those requiring additional validation steps, such as networks in hotels, cafes, and airports.
The update introduces a QR Code Authentication system. To connect to these public networks, PS Portal will display a QR code. Users can scan this code with a smartphone or tablet, allowing them to complete the necessary validation steps through their mobile device's web browser. The PS Portal requires a Wi-Fi connection with at least 5Mbps for basic use, but for an enhanced gaming experience, a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps is recommended.
Enhanced Visual Feedback
Another notable improvement is the new visual feedback for the touchpad areas on the PS Portal’s vibrant 8-inch screen. This update adds visual effects that will be displayed when using the touchpad areas during remote play, providing a more intuitive and interactive experience.
Battery Level Percentage Display
For better power management, users now have the option to display the remaining battery level percentage on the status bar. This can be enabled by accessing the quick menu, navigating to [Settings] > [System] > [Battery], and turning on [Show Battery Percentage].
A Growing Community of Remote Players
Since its launch last November, the PS Portal has been well-received by the gaming community. It has introduced many gamers to the Remote Play feature on PS5, with over 60% of PS Portal owners using this feature for the first time. Additionally, the average engagement on PS5 has increased for many players within the first eight weeks of using their PS Portal.
The integration of key features from the DualSense wireless controller with the PS Portal’s 8-inch LCD screen has taken the Remote Play experience to new heights. This update reflects PlayStation's commitment to making high-quality gaming more accessible and enjoyable, whether at home or on the go.
PlayStation continues to build upon its Remote Play technology, striving to deliver an unparalleled gaming experience directly into the hands of its users. With these latest enhancements, the PS Portal is set to make high-quality console gaming more convenient and engaging than ever before.
