Michelle Mylett: From Letterkenny to Gaming Exploring New Frontiers
At Fan Expo 2024, we enjoyed catching up with Michelle Mylett, the beloved actress known for her role as Katy in the hit Canadian series Letterkenny. While many fans know her for her sharp wit and undeniable charm on the show, Michelle’s talents extend far beyond the small screen. During our chat, she opened up about her experience with the game The Complex and the exciting projects she has in the pipeline.
Michelle greeted us with a warm smile, reflecting on what had already been a bustling first day at the convention. “I’m doing well, yeah! It’s been a great first day. It’s been busy, but everyone’s been lovely and kind, so I feel really lucky,” she shared. Despite the whirlwind pace, her genuine enthusiasm for meeting fans was evident, making it clear why she’s such a fan favourite.
While Letterkenny may have brought Michelle into the spotlight, she’s no stranger to exploring new mediums. Her role in The Complex, a narrative-driven video game that doubles as a film, showcases her versatility as an actress. When asked about how the project came together, Michelle explained, “It was always structured to be both. It was a narrative movie with a bit of a 'choose your own adventure' style... and depending on those choices, we shot six different endings.”
The project was as challenging as it was rewarding, with gruelling 16-hour days over eight weeks and a 316-page script. Michelle’s commitment to her craft was undeniable, especially as she tackled every single scene as the protagonist. “It was really challenging... but I’m proud of what we accomplished,” she added.
Michelle’s work in The Complex seems to have sparked a new interest—gaming. Though she humbly admits she’s not an avid gamer, the genre fascinates her, especially in horror. “Growing up, Resident Evil. I feel like I come from a horror background, so something darker like that would be fun,” she mused. The idea of stepping into a role akin to Jill Valentine from Resident Evil intrigued her, and it’s clear that horror or drama would be her genres of choice.
As our conversation turned to her future in the gaming industry, Michelle expressed an eagerness to explore both voice acting and motion capture. “I love doing voice work... but having your physicality involved in a motion capture role would be surreal. So yeah, I’d want to do both!”
