Hell is Us: New Gameplay Revealed, Showcasing Combat, Exploration, and ‘Player Plattering
NACON and Rogue Factor have unveiled an in-depth, 15-minute gameplay video for their upcoming action-adventure title, Hell is Us, presented by Creative Director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête. Set for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, this video gives players their first comprehensive look at the game’s narrative, design approach, and combat system.
The Story of Hell is Us: A Return to a War-Torn Homeland
The game’s narrative centers on Remi, who returns to his birthplace, Hadea, a country isolated from the world and torn apart by civil war. In this dark, fictional world, Remi seeks answers about his past, confronting both the horrors of the war and the supernatural elements that haunt his homeland.
Combat System: Deep, Demanding, but Not “Souls-Like”
Combat is a significant part of the experience in Hell is Us, though it's important to note that this isn’t a souls-like game. Instead, the combat is designed with a balanced difficulty that requires mastery of different moves and strategies but doesn't punish players excessively.
Remi can wield a variety of weapons and abilities, and players will have to learn to adapt to enemy tactics. One unique aspect is KAPI, a drone companion that offers valuable support during combat, from distracting enemies to enabling powerful special attacks.
‘Player Plattering’: A New Approach to Exploration
Hell is Us introduces an innovative design philosophy called “player plattering”, which encourages players to engage deeply with the world through exploration and reflection. Rather than relying on traditional game elements like markers or quest journals, players are pushed to use their instincts and curiosity to uncover points of interest and hidden secrets throughout the environment.
This unique approach immerses players in a rich world filled with ancient dungeons and forgotten histories, rewarding those who explore deeply. More details on player plattering will be shared in a forthcoming video.
With its distinct design, intricate combat mechanics, and an immersive storyline, Hell is Us promises to deliver a fresh and intriguing experience when it arrives in 2025.
