Coffee Talk Tokyo: A New Chapter in the Beloved Visual Novel Series Set to Launch in 2025
The soothing sounds of lo-fi beats and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee are making their way back to fans with the announcement of Coffee Talk Tokyo, the next installment in the much-loved Coffee Talk series. Scheduled for release in 2025, this follow-up to 2020’s Coffee Talk and 2023’s Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox One (X|S Compatible), and Nintendo Switch
A New Café, A New City, Same Heartfelt Experience
Revealed during Nintendo’s Indie World showcase, Coffee Talk Tokyo invites players to step into the shoes of a mysterious barista once again, this time in a cozy, all-night coffee shop nestled in a Tokyo backstreet. While the setting may have changed, the essence of the game remains the same—offering a safe haven where humans and fantastical beings can share their stories over a warm cup of coffee.
In this latest chapter, players will meet a new cast of characters, including Kenji, a kappa salaryman facing the challenges of retirement; Vin, the barista’s assistant dealing with the aftermath of a personal tragedy; and Ayame, a ghost striving to move on with her afterlife. Familiar faces from previous games will also make appearances, ensuring a blend of new and nostalgic experiences for fans.
Enhancements and Returning Talent
Coffee Talk Tokyo brings several new features to the table, including an upgraded lo-fi soundtrack composed by Andrew “AJ” Jeremy, who also scored the previous games. Players will be able to elevate their latte art with sprinkle stencils and reconnect with characters through the enhanced Tomodachill in-game social media app.
Returning to the writing team are Anna Winterstein, co-writer of Coffee Talk: Hibiscus and Butterfly, and Kimitaka Ogawa, the Japanese translator of the original Coffee Talk games. Their collaboration promises to bring depth and authenticity to the stories unfolding in this new setting.
