For the first time in Call of Duty esports history, the Call of Duty League (CDL) Championships will be held outside of the United States. Announced on Thursday, the 2025 CDL Championship weekend is set to take place in Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada, just outside the Greater Toronto Area.

Event Details & Location

  • Dates: June 26-29, 2025
  • Venue: Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, Waterloo Region, Ontario
  • Teams: The top eight CDL teams will compete for the biggest prize and top honor of the season
  • Setup: A 360-degree center stage, powered by Explore Waterloo Region and telecommunications partner Bell

This marks a landmark moment for esports in Canada, as Toronto Ultra’s parent company, OverActive Media, is bringing a premier esports event to Canadian soil for the first time.

OverActive Media’s Vision for the CDL Championship in Canada

Adam Adamou, co-founder and CEO of OverActive Media, emphasized the significance of hosting the biggest CDL event of the year in Canada:

“Bringing the Call of Duty League Championship to Canada is a defining moment for OverActive Media. As Canadian businesses are looking for new ways to drive economic growth, this event will bring significant tourism, business, and commercial opportunities to the region.”

With support from key partners like Bell, AMD, Blacklyte, and SCUF Gaming, OverActive Media believes the event will have a major economic impact, attracting local and international fans to the Waterloo Region.

A Historic Moment for the CDL and Canadian Esports

The Call of Duty League Championship weekend is considered one of the biggest esports events of the year, and having it land in Canada signals major growth for the industry in the region. OverActive Media, which also operates Toronto Ultra, Movistar KOI (Valorant, FreeFire, and League of Legends teams), continues to push for Canada’s presence on the global esports stage.

This is just the beginning of what could be a new era for Call of Duty esports, as the league expands its global reach—and Canada gets its first taste of hosting one of the most prestigious tournaments in gaming.
